Today is my birthday. It's a big one- 35. I think if anything I find myself loving growing older. In my 30s I take more risk and adventures, put forth the love and energy towards my passions, and continue to find myself.
It was 3 years ago on my birthday that marked my last day working retail management. After 11 years with Express, I felt it was time to take a new adventure and follow my heart- my photography and my creative endeavors. I think leaving behind a job you spent over a decade with to try something new is pretty bold. Especially walking into something completely unknown. I remember the first year on my own as a freelance photographer being an uphill struggle. However the company taught me so much and instilled so many values that I carry with me to this day to strive for success.
Express taught me to be passionate about goals. Express taught me to aspire to inspire. Express taught me to face challenges and conquer them head on. Express taught me above all things to be myself. So in honor of all that Express has taught me, I partnered with the company for my birthday for their Your Life, Your Dress Code Campaign.
On my birthday, I treat myself with an adventure. This year I visited one of my favorite places- Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to see the buffalo. I love my home state. There are so many beautiful places to see and so much history to discover. This time of year, the weather is unpredictable so I paired this Four Pocket Casual Jacket over a Soft Wash Denim Shirt & Jeans. The terrain is rough so I wore these Suede Chukka Boots in a desert khaki color. Within my dress code, I love a French roll cuff on my pants to show off my shoes.
My accessory for my outfit- my Yashica camera. This was the first camera that my parents purchased when they came to America and the camera that documented my childhood. I was always enamored with it and eventually my parents gave me. This began my love affair with photography and the foundation of where I am today. I thought it was the perfect pairing to my look and my adventure.
Spending a cloudy day in Pawhuska was a great way to kick off a new year. I look forward to where life takes me and what's in store. Here's to 35. Let's give 36 a run for it's money.
